“In the minds of many people, the word financing wrongly evokes a personal debt, a financial burden, it’s scary […] our primary intention is to get people to consider the financing stage as a lever for the business by demystifying all the workings,” says Jean-Sébastien Roy, director of business services at the SADC des Laurentides.

A misperception

“Entrepreneurs need to be made to understand how the people who fund businesses think. […] the process is not the same as for a personal mortgage as many people perceive it […] it’s not necessarily about knowing how much one can get by giving guarantees, it’s more about demonstrating why I need financing and how far it will allow me to go”, explains Mr Roy.

The podcast is divided into four episodes that provide an overview of the different stages of business financing. “We first see when to seek financing, who to turn to to obtain funds, how to react following a refusal and what business relationship it is best to maintain with financial partners”, explains Jean-Sébastien Roy.

Sharing of expertise

In order to present a portrait of the ecosystem that supports businesses in the territory, the SADC des Laurentides called on the advisors of four organizations that share their expertise. Among the specialists who took part in the project, we note the presence of Jean-Sébastien Roy (SADC des Laurentides), Annie Mathieu (MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut), Alexandre Lapointe (Corporation de développement économique de la MRC des Laurentides ) and Kelly Lynch (Desjardins Enterprises).

In each episode, an entrepreneur from the region is invited to tell his experience in connection with the financing of his business. “We’re talking about the basics here, the 101 language that allows everyone, even if they have no experience, to clearly understand what financing consists of,” states Mr. Roy. Thus, Jessyca Trottier (Tissus du Nord), Étienne Avon (Camping du Domaine Lausanne), Jonathan Geronimo (Ski LAB Tremblant) and Johanne Martineau (Merci la vie) will parade in the different episodes to share their experience at different stages of the process.

Accessible help

According to Mr. Roy, the podcast is a more accessible format than the blog or the written document, because it can be consumed almost anywhere. “We had to go into the void for this project, because it was a first for all […] but we have surrounded ourselves with competent people to deliver quality content in a format that people will appreciate […] We are very proud of the end result,” recalls Jean-Sébastien Roy.

All episodes of the podcast Entreprendre son financement are available free of charge on the main listening platforms such as Spotify and Apple Store, as well as on the SADC des Laurentides website www.sadc-laurentides.org/balados
