In practice, social engineering actors apply many ways to deceive victims. The most common are disguises and pretending to be financial institutions or banks. Perpetrators contact potential victims via messages, emails, cellular calls to send friend requests on social media.

Soceng can also be done through physical interaction. In Indonesia, there are many modes of criminals who pretend to offer help at ATMs. People who are not vigilant often become victims so that the money in the account is drained.

Clickbait is one of the other types of soceng. Perpetrators lure potential victims with information that seems useful. When the victim is tempted and clicks, the malware virus will infect the mobile device and steal important data.
