Riga, Sept. 22, LETA. A series of events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Alexander Chuck will take place in Riga, Vineta Žilinska, media and communication project manager of the Association of Cultural Institutions of Riga Municipality, informed LETA.

On October 27, the poet, writer, one of the pioneers of Latvian urban poetry, Čaks, will celebrate his 120th anniversary. In honor of the poet’s anniversary and commemorating his literary heritage, the Association of Cultural Institutions of Riga Municipality is organizing a cycle of events dedicated to the anniversary of Chuck, which will begin in October and continue in November.

From October 1 to November 21, the exhibition hall “Riga Art Space” will host a literary and cultural educational exhibition “From Alexander to Chuck” dedicated to the anniversary of Chuck, where you can get a visual and philosophical idea of ​​the contribution, heritage and personality of the Riga city poet.

The exhibition will be an opportunity to get to know not only Chuck’s own life, but also the most important personalities in his life – father Jānis Čadarainis, mother Emilija Lizeta Čadarainis, wife Anna Elizabeth Eriks Bērziņš and others. This exhibition will show the poet through time, giving everyone the opportunity to get acquainted with his places of residence and events related to them.

With the vision of a professional artist, set designer Kristian Brekte, the collection of the Chuck Museum will be opened in the exposition, starting with significant events of a notable personality in Latvia and ending with everyday, everyday objects that have had a functional significance in the poet’s and his family’s life. The exhibition will feature not only the works of the artists in the collection, but also the newly created works of the artist Brekte.

In order to create an additional edge for the exhibition exposition and to stimulate the new generation’s interest in the poet, his legacy and its future research, five literary evenings will be organized on October 14 and 21, as well as on November 4, 11 and 18 at 6 p.m. In the living room of Alexander Chuck “.

Excerpts from Chuck’s work “Affected by Eternity” will be performed by actor Mārtiņš Vilsons, poetry will be read by actors Vilis Daudziņš and Artis Robežnieks, as well as cultural and creative personalities such as Kārina Pētersone, Valdis Rūmnieks and Jānis Rokpelnis will participate.

Each of the meetings will be complemented by a musical design – songs performed by Chuck will be performed by an actor or an invited musician.

The exhibition will be complemented by many other events dedicated to the anniversary of Chuck – on October 16 at 11.30 children’s education program “Pilots”, on October 29 at 19 Poetry and music evening “You, Infinity, I send my eyes to you”, on November 18 at 15 music event “Melancholic and beautiful”.

On October 14, at 2 pm, the Čaka memorial tab will be unveiled at the building in Rīga, Lāčplēša Street 48, where the poet lived from 1937 to 1950.

The tab was created by the artist Aivars Vilipsons, whose cooperation with the museum has lasted for almost 20 years. During these years, Wilipson has had several exhibitions at the museum. As an artist, Vilipsons has worked on books created by the Chuck Museum, as well as published a coloring book for children “Once Upon a Time Chuck”, giving the youngest the opportunity to get to know the poet. The memorial tab was created with the financial support of the “Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation”.

The traditional Chuck Award Ceremony “Alexander Chuck’s 120th Living Room” will take place on October 27 at 5 pm in the Exhibition Hall “Riga Art Space”.

The presentation of the Chuck Prize began in the poet’s centenary in 2001, and every two years it is awarded for the artistically high-quality interpretation of Riga in literature, music, film, theater or visual arts, as well as in the research, promotion and translation of Chuck’s creative heritage.
