Liputan6.com, Jakarta – A number of public figures took to the streets, joining the masses demonstrating in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building on Thursday (21/8/2024). This demonstration was carried out to oversee the Constitutional Court (MK) decision which is considered crucial in maintaining the integrity of Indonesian democracy.
In the crowd, several figures from the creative industry were seen, including comedians, actors, musicians, and film directors. They took part in this action and voiced their concerns about the current political situation.
One of the famous comedians, Arie Kriting, said that all groups need to get involved in this action, because there are irregularities in the discussion of the Revised Law (RUU) on Regional Elections.
“Because it has been too outspoken, the inconsistency has been too outspoken. So we hope that the government and our people’s representatives can see that the people are still there to fight together,” he said at the location, Thursday.
Arie Kriting also highlighted the delay in ratification of the Revised Regional Election Law. He hopes this will be a breath of fresh air for the Indonesian people.
“Hopefully the postponement is a good signal. For me personally, I like to have good thoughts, hopefully when it is postponed, they will finally think again about their steps and be able to choose the right option,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yudha Keling who joined the demonstration said, stand up comedians are among the people who still care about the Indonesian people. Therefore, they were also present in front of the DPR/MPR Building.
“Because we all see that there is something wrong with what is happening in the DPR, because this has become a shared concern, we all join in along with other people,” he said.
Yudha Keling hopes that the Constitutional Court’s (MK) ruling on the ruling that political parties without seats can nominate regional head candidates will be responded to correctly. He then referred back to President Joko Widodo’s statement.
“Of course, it must be like Mr. Jokowi said a few months ago, the Constitutional Court’s decision must be final,” he said.
“We hope that is the final decision,” he said.
