A sergeant of the Army dies in a parachuting exercise in Cartagena | Radio Murcia

The Ministry of Defense has confirmed the death of this soldier, Rafael Gallart Martínez, 34 years old and a native of Hellín, when he fell into the sea in a parachute jump exercise over water in Cartagena (Murcia) during the sixty-fifth course of special operations .

Due to unknown circumstances, the security personnel in charge of recovering the jumpers have found him unconscious, face down and after being performed pulmonary resuscitation maneuvers he has been evacuated to the Santa Lucía hospital.

As reported by the Emergency Coordination Center, around 12.50 this Thursday they received the notice that two people had rushed into the water in the area of ​​La Algameca (Cartagena). An assistance ambulance requested by the Army has traveled there.

One of the two paratroopers, Sergeant Rafael Gallart, died a few hours after being transferred to the Cartagena hospital.

Rafael Gallart Martínez had joined the army in 2008 and was promoted to sergeant in July 2020 after entering the General Basic Academy of NCOs, after which he was assigned to the third Alejandro Farnesio fourth of the Legion in Ronda (Málaga).

He had participated in missions in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic and Senegal and had a Cross of Military Merit with a white badge.
