A septuagenarian died accidentally at his home on Monday, May 3, 2021, after he was thrown onto a wall by his car. According to the emergency services and the first testimonies, the handbrake of the parked vehicle would have given way before fatally striking the 77-year-old man in his mad race.
This unfortunate news item took place in the middle of the morning, in the Haut de Californie district, in Lamentin, (impasse Pêche). The STID (Territorial Fire and Rescue Service) firefighters dispatched to the scene were unable to bring the victim back to life despite their attempts at resuscitation.
An investigation was opened by the Police to clarify the circumstances of this accident, which allegedly occurred in a sloping driveway.

“In addition to fully applying the handbrake, it is strongly recommended that you engage a gear after switching off the ignition. On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, drivers will be able to choose between first gear or reverse gear in taking into account the direction of parking on the slope. Automatic gearboxes must be positioned on the “P” (Parking) “.
