The tragic event took place on the first class road I/14, which passes through the center of Nové Město nad Metují.
“The female pedestrian (46) was crossing the pedestrian crossing. The other three men who were involved in the accident were repairing the sidewalk,” police spokeswoman Karolína Macháčková said, adding that the 49-year-old worker suffered life-threatening injuries.

“The other two men, together with a pedestrian with serious injuries, were taken into care by doctors. The youngest of the men was airlifted to the Hradec Králové University Hospital. A forensic autopsy will be ordered for the deceased,” the police spokeswoman added.
The emergency services sent three crews, a doctor and a helicopter to the scene. “We treated five people on the spot, unfortunately one person died. We transported two men to the university hospital in Hradec Králové. One was transported by land, the other by helicopter. This man had to be put into artificial sleep and already during the journey he was given a blood transfusion,” said ambulance spokesman Ivo Novák, adding that two other slightly injured, a woman and a man, were taken to the hospital in Náchod.
The driver (73 years old) suffered minor injuries. Alcohol was ruled out by a negative breath test. All circumstances and the cause of the traffic accident are still under investigation by the Náchod police.
