A self-driving car can see 300 meters away with Toshiba’s great innovation

Toshiba has assembled a palm-sized LiDAR system that will help self-driving cars.

Toshiba presented a palm-sized laser projector for self-driving systems. Thanks to the new technology, the range of LiDAR detection is already 300 meters, which is how much a self-driving car can do. The Toshiba according to it is the world’s smallest LiDAR system at 71 cubic centimeters.

The device, which uses special components, can also be adjusted for use at a distance or with a wider viewing angle. THE Tesla apart from that, most manufacturers use LiDAR technology for level 3 and 4 self-driving functions.

According to Toshiba, current systems cannot really record objects in 3D, especially in the dark. However, with the new technology, the car would see road conditions better, thus increasing safety. Basically, the solution is intended for self-driving cars, but it will also be sold for drones, robots and security devices.
