South Korean company LIG Nex One announced on Friday that it had won an order worth 3.71 trillion ($2.8 billion) from Iraq to export medium-range surface-to-air missile defense systems.
The Defense Industries Company did not provide any other details about the deal in a regulatory filing, citing confidentiality reasons.

According to the newspaper “The Korea Economic”, Al-Abbasi at the time met with Korean military officials in Seoul and asked about receiving three batteries from the “Cheongong 2” system, but said Korean defense companies that they could deliver two batteries first.
This news comes after LIG NexOne won a $3.2 billion contract to export 10 batteries for missile systems, known as M-Sam 2 or Cheongong 2, to Saudi Arabia, according to South Korea’s Ministry of Defense in February.
In 2022, the UAE agreed to buy $3.5 billion worth of batteries.

During a test launch in 2017, the Cheongong-2 system demonstrated a 100 percent accuracy rate, according to Korean military officials.
Iraq developed a large and integrated air defense system with the help of France and the Soviet Union in the 1980s, but this network was greatly reduced during the 1991 Gulf War, and failed to regain its strength after that.
