Alytus city municipality will install a parking lot on the plot it owns on Jurgiškių street near the 55th apartment building and rent it out to residents. The city mayor and his team informed the residents of the surrounding houses about this on Thursday. This is the second parking lot owned by the city, where residents will be able to rent places for their transport. The first one is being completed in Vingios Street.
A parking lot with 80 spaces will be installed on Jurgiškių street, a few more spaces will be reserved for the disabled and for temporary parking up to 15 minutes. for parking. The site will have a rainwater system, lighting. Residents of surrounding houses will not have to contribute. The site will be equipped with the funds of the city budget, it will be cleaned, and the spaces near the apartment buildings will continue to be at the disposal of the communities. Parking a car in a paid parking lot will cost 20 euros per month. Residents fear that the sites will be handed over to private businesses in the future. The mayor does not hide that there was a desire to take over paid parking lots from the side of businessmen.
In this way, the municipality helps to solve parking problems, says Alytus City Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis, that it is often difficult for community residents to agree among themselves on the distribution or installation of parking lots by means of partial financing, so such an arrangement, when parking spaces are installed at the city’s expense, should help solve parking problems. The works will be performed by UAB “Gilmera”, their value is 250 thousand. euros.
