A second member of the far-right group, the Zouaves Paris was arrested on Wednesday. He is suspected of having taken part in violence during the meeting of Éric Zemmour in Villepinte, on December 5th.
A young 18-year-old member of the Zouaves Paris group was arrested on Wednesday. The young man is suspected of being involved in the violence against SOS Racisme activists during Eric Zemmour’s meeting in Villepinte on December 5th. He was taken into custody on charges of “intentional violence resulting in an ITT of less than 8 days“learned AFP from the Bobigny prosecutor’s office.
This arrest comes the day after that of the presumed leader of the ultra-right group, Marc de Caquerey-Valmenier. He was arrested by the Research and Intervention Brigade on Tuesday. The has already been given a 6-month suspended prison sentence in January 2019 for violence committed during a Yellow Vests demonstration on December 1, 2018.
During Eric Zemmour’s meeting, video surveillance cameras and the work of the investigation services made it possible to identify several alleged perpetrators of the violence, including members of the Zouaves Paris. They are suspected of being the source of violence against activists and SOS Racisme. Eleven complaints were filed following these by members of SOS Racisme.
The ultra-right group, the Zouaves Paris have been carrying out violent actions for several years. They particularly target places popular with anti-fascist movements, such as during the attack on a bar in Ménilmontant in June 2020. This Sunday, the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin initiated dissolution proceedings against this movement.
