a school canteen manager dismissed after denouncing a lack of staff

A canteen manager at a school in Noisy-le-Grand was fired after denouncing a lack of staff in his department. An online petition has been launched to obtain his reinstatement.

My name is Gilles Saillard, I am a school teacher. I am also responsible for the canteen since 2007 and it is in this capacity that I intervene today“. So begins the petition launched by Gilles Saillardformer employee in a school in Noisy-le-Grand.

His will: to return to the service from which he was dismissed on October 19. From the end of August, I sent several emails to the municipal services to alert them to the lack of staff to supervise the canteen.“, he explains to France 3 Paris Île-de-France.

His emails, which remained unanswered, pointed to the fact that the school, which had 12 facilitators in June 2021, only had 7 in September. Faced with this situation, Gilles Saillardbelieving that it was not child safety compliant, asked his team not to continue to provide the service. It was no longer livable for us, the management of children at 7 became impossible“says the former manager.

His colleagues, faced with the threat of sanctions following their withdrawal, decide to reconsider their decisions and return to work. Many of them have precarious situations so I understood their position” continues Gilles Saillard.

Understaffed, employees are overwhelmed and many accidents occur, according to Gilles Saillard. We complained of broken teeth, an open arch and a twisted ankle. I was even called in emergency when a student was taken away by the firefighters following a concussion“, regrets the one who managed the canteen for 14 years.

The former canteen manager’s petition seeks justification for his dismissal. On October 19, he received an email from the municipal services. Suite to several unsuccessful round trips to the town hall to sign, I was notified that I was dismissed without any reason” he protests.

In his petition, which already has more than 5,000 signatures, he requests an interview with Brigitte Marsigny, the mayor of Noisy-le-Grand, as well as her “immediate reinstatement in the post of canteen manager“.

Contacted by us, the town hall was unable to answer our questions today.
