By closing the multipurpose room this Monday, December 21 at 6:30 p.m., the members of the association of blood donors of Biars-sur-Cère were satisfied. The collection was honorable despite the precautions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic: wearing a compulsory mask, disinfection and distancing to be observed while in the multipurpose room. 98 generous blood donors presented themselves, 84 were withdrawn including seven new donors. To meet a doctor after having duly completed his file, an obligatory passage before donating blood, the wait was long and some, in anticipation, had brought reading!
An improved snack a few days before the holidays
So that the donors regain their strength, Christmas being near, the members of the friendly had prepared an improved and gourmet snack with the choice of chocolates, foie gras, salmon, country ham or cheese sandwiches, fresh or dried fruit, papillotes and fruit jellies, snack served with hot drinks or unlimited fruit juice.
Finishing to eat, a young donor living in Cornac was kind enough to answer a few questions. At 20, this is his fourth harvest. Through his entourage, he knows the importance of blood donations for hospitals and for patients. But it was at the University of Toulouse, where he is a third year student in biology and food processing, that he was definitely convinced of the need to donate blood. He regrets not having been sensitized earlier at school, and he hopes that this subject is now addressed in this period of epidemic, so that this citizen gesture has become evident.
The members of the association of blood donors thanked the donors who came to participate in this blood drive and have made an appointment for the next blood drive on Wednesday February 24, 2021.
2020, best year since 2010
The year 2020 was a year with very honorable results for blood drives in Biars-sur-Cère.
Despite the strict protocol, its constraints and a rather long queue, many people wanted to donate their blood and, each time, new donors showed up. Is it the Covid, the main subject of all the information on TV, radio and in the newspapers, which educates the population about the health of others and to make this generous donation?
Since the first containment, except for the cautious collection of May 14, the other three collections have been significant.
On July 28, 79 donors were collected including eleven new for 93 people who presented. On October 5, 99 could be collected including ten new donors for 106 people who presented themselves, and on December 21, 84 were collected including seven new donors for 98 people who came to the collection (see above).
Thus, in 2020, donors were much more motivated and 2020 had increased withdrawals by forty donations compared to the best annual result since 2010.
