(sku) The recruit did not reach the finish line after a 6.5-kilometer performance march on a Waffenplatzstrasse, as the army announced on Tuesday. After a short search, he was found lifeless next to the route. Neither the first aid cadre nor Rega were able to revive the recruit. The march was completed individually after a start in the train frame.
The military judiciary has started an investigation. The army does not currently provide any further information regarding the age or origin of the deceased recruit, spokesman Stefan Hofer said on request. Even why the comrades would not have noticed the recruit lying on the ground, Hofer cannot answer. “At the current state of the investigations everything would be pure speculation.”
“It’s a sad day for the army,” says Hofer. Relatives and comrades of the deceased are currently being looked after by care teams.
The Grenadier RS is one of the most challenging training courses in the Swiss military. The recruits are also trained in hand-to-hand combat and house fighting. A prerequisite for admission to such a troop is a very good result in the sports test at the levy. The training takes 23 weeks. The corresponding summer RS only started on July 6th.
