A Saab dealership has been operating in Taiwan for more than 10 years after its bankruptcy

The immortal automaker has only formally disappeared, as indicated by the dedicated opening of another dealership. New cars have replaced used cars and service is a must for them.

At the end of 2011, the Swedish court declared the Saab car company bankrupt. The inevitable end of the world-famous manufacturer began with unpaid invoices to subcontractors, who responded by canceling supply to the factories. Hope in the form of alternative financing for revival has been dashed by opposition from regulators or lenders.

The demise of the otherwise prosperous Saab’s automotive division was hailed as a sad conclusion for innovative approaches. The original approach to transportation technology has so impressed the Asian retailer that, even more than a decade after bankruptcy, he refuses to say goodbye to the brand. More than ten years after the court’s decision, the Taiwanese Saab dealership continues to operate. The dedicated dealer continues to sell cars and advertising items from the Swedish automaker. The item for sale is more like an heirloom for collectors.

Scandinavia Asia Corporation (SAC) has represented the Swedish brand since 1980, with a commitment to continue serving its customers despite Saab’s official bankruptcy. SAC does not foresee a change in the company’s strategy in the near future, despite the non-existent production of new cars, it owns and operates 18 service centers in Taiwan focused on used cars.

The maintenance of used Saabs still works. Thanks to the interest of loyal customers, the new branch was opened only last year after being forced to move from the original address. The novelties displayed behind the windows have replaced polished vintage specimens that evoke the past, which wanted a unique design and revolutionary technology. “We have done everything possible to keep Saab on the roads of Taiwan. Offering services is our duty as all Saabs on the island have been sold by SAC. It is our responsibility to keep the brand alive “, says SAC Vice President Salo Yang.

Yang has the remaining parts supplied by the parent company General Motors. Stocks of products are also supplied by AC Delco and Orio, who continue to support independent resellers. However, the service centers cannot avoid the lack of some specific parts, cases of need for revision are known, because neither GM nor Saab AB allow further collaborations.

The opening of the fully modern dealership last year followed the sale of the house at the original address. The renovated premises of the new workplace are deliberately located near the previous car showroom, the advertising signs on the building, including lighting, furniture and interior layout, do not at all indicate that Saab has not existed for over ten years.
