A Russian warship and a Chinese Navy ship passed near the Japanese islands

Official Tokyo protested to Beijing over the fact that a Chinese warship sailed near the disputed islands in the East China Sea, which are called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, respectively.

Japanese officials regularly protest the presence of Chinese coast guard ships in the waters near the islands. A Chinese Navy frigate has been sighted in adjacent Japanese waters southwest of one of the Tokyo-controlled islands.

“We expressed our serious concern and protest to the Chinese side through diplomatic channels and urged them to prevent such incidents from happening again,” Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara said.

In addition, a Russian warship was spotted in the adjacent waters of the disputed islands on Monday. Adjacent waters in international maritime law is considered to be a 12-mile strip that extends beyond the territorial waters.
