A Russian Navy ship crosses the Turkish Dardanelles Strait

AA/Canakkale

A Russian navy ship crossed the Turkish Strait of Çanakkale (the Dardanelles) on Saturday towards the Sea of Marmara, amid tensions between Moscow and the West on the Russian-Ukrainian border.

The correspondent of Anadolu Agency said that the ship “ROSTOV-NA-DONU” of the Russian Imperial Black Sea Fleet, entered the Çanakkale Strait, coming from the Aegean Sea.

The 74-meter-long vessel continued on its way to the Sea of Marmara after crossing the Dardanelles Strait, escorted by Turkish Coast Guard units, he said.

For the time being, no information has been issued regarding the port where the Russian ship should dock.

The crossing of the Russian ship comes amid US and Western warnings of an “imminent” Russian invasion of Ukraine, while Moscow calls the warnings “provocative”.
