A Russian-Chinese quest for a multipolar world

Russia and China on Wednesday expressed their desire to work together for a multipolar world.

This came after talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and China’s chief diplomat, Wang Yi, today, Wednesday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the Russian foreign minister will hold a meeting with the head of the Chinese Communist Party’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Wang Yi, on Wednesday.

On Monday, Wang Yi arrived in Budapest to meet with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sjarto and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation between Budapest and Beijing and a number of regional issues, including the conflict in Ukraine.

The most prominent statements after the talks between Lavrov and Wang Yi:

  • Lavrov confirms that relations between Moscow and Beijing are developing despite the tense international situation.

For his part, Wang Yi said:

  • We continue to be in close contact with Russia
  • We are developing strategic partnership with Moscow
  • Beijing and Moscow are building a multipolar world
  • We continue to be in close contact with Russia
