A Royal Visit to Wimbledon: Princess Kate and Roger Federer’s Doubles Match and Appreciation for Ball Boys and Girls

Princess Kate and Roger Federer paid a visit to Wimbledon. First, the two matched in a doubles match and in the process, Her Royal Highness made the former tennis champion look old with a whopping passing ball. Then it was off to the ball boys and girls who are preparing for the classic lawn event (from July 3rd).

The princess praised their work. The 41-year-old said the young people could take a lot of self-confidence with them for other areas of life from the discipline and other things they learned. Kate is Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the official host of Wimbledon.

Each year, about 1,000 children from local schools, ages 13 to 15, are trained to be ball kids. Over the course of several months, they learn how to correctly signal rallies, roll balls to the net or throw them to the tennis players. Finally, 250 girls and boys are selected, 170 of them newcomers and 80 from previous years.
