A Room for Musical Theater: Beāte Zviedre and Artis Robežnieks Share Their Vision

Gorgeous costumes, beautiful melodies, choreographed numbers and, of course, a melodramatic story. Qualitative musicals are loved in Latvia. This is evidenced by the completely sold-out performances of Jānis Lūsēns and Pēteras Brūver’s musical “Agrā rūsa” throughout Latvia in February and March this year. However, there is still no permanent musical theater or operetta in Latvia. Singer Beāte Zviedre and actor Artis Robežnieks, who play the main roles in the musical “Agrā rūsa”, both answer in the “Kulturklubs” program of “Delfi TV”.

“There will never be too many cultural spaces,” Artis Robežnieks replies to the question of whether Latvia should build a permanent theater for operettas and musicals. He points out that another discussion would be whether musical and operetta are genres that can be put under the same roof.

“As if both are similar, but whether it is one and the same – it is impossible to say. However, if it is one of the possibilities to preserve, maintain and raise the genre of musical theater in Latvia to a higher level, then, of course, such a theater should be created again Next, what to call it – operettas or musical theater, that’s the next question,” says Robežnieks in the program “Kultūrklubs”.

On the other hand, the singer Beāte Zviedre, whose musical plays the beautiful but poor Elsa, longing for a prosperous life, admits that having her own room for a musical theater would be a wonderful idea, but according to her, the house still provides nothing if there is no team and funding.
