A Romanian from England who was seriously injured when he tried to kill his wife received compensation in the amount of over 17 thousand pounds because he was not operated on in time / How the magistrate argued his decision

A Romanian carpenter convicted of attempted murder because he attacked his wife with a kitchen knife with the intention of killing her obtained damages worth over 17 thousand pounds. He sued the Public Health Service in England for being injured during the attack and not being operated on in time, reports Adevărul.ro

A 36-year-old Romanian man was sentenced to 11 years in prison in December 2015 for attempted murder, after he stabbed his wife, Daniela, with a knife and then cut her face. The attack took place in the kitchen of the house where the family lived.

The aggressor was under the influence of alcohol at the time, he writes yellowad.co.uk. Investigators determined that the stabbing weapon, a kitchen knife, entered through the right breast of Daniela, the Romanian’s wife, passed between two ribs, through a lung and touched her liver.

Following the aggression, the 35-year-old Romanian woman was hospitalized for almost four months and was left with permanent scars. The man stabbed his life partner so fiercely that he cut himself on two fingers of his right hand, and the doctors then determined that he needed immediate surgery, which did not happen.

Following a hearing in May 2021 in Norwich Court, the 36-year-old man received damages of £ 8,500. The trial judge dismissed most of his claims for negligence on the grounds that he lied about how he had been harmed.

His lawyers later challenged the decision in the UK higher court, and another judge ruled that the compensation be increased to £ 17,500.

The magistrate said that it does not matter if the Romanian cut his fingers “by opening a box of beans or while trying to kill his wife”, but only the fact that he did not receive medical assistance on time is relevant.

The 36-year-old man had initially demanded £ 125,000 in damages, claiming that he had not been operated on in time for the stab wound in his hand while trying to kill his wife, which later prevented him from working as a carpenter. he thus lost significant income. To all this are added the costs of an operation in Romania and those with medical care.
