a robot will hunt down the Covid in the hospital

It is a latest-generation robot which has just been acquired by the Portes de Provence hospital group (GHPP). A molecular biology machine that will be able to analyze up to 300 patient samples in just 8 hours, PCR tests to track down Covid-19 but not only. The sample is of course always carried out by hospital staff. But the advantage of such a machine is also to reduce the risk of contamination of technicians.

This machine will also ensure the continuity of screening on the territory: “We will provide care one weekend per month, alternating with Valence, or even with private laboratories”, explains Dr.r Kaoula, the head of the biology unit at Montélimar hospital. And if needed, it can work 24 hours a day.

But it’s not just for PCR testing. He may perform other analyzes (HPV, influenza, Respiratory syncitial virus-RSV, etc.).

“It is the only tool of this generation in Drôme-Ardèche”

An investment of some 250,000 euros. “It’s a great tool for the population, and it’s the only tool of this generation in Drôme-Ardèche. It is also in the interest of being a GHPP ”, welcomed the mayor of Montélimar and chairman of the supervisory board of the Julien Cornillet hospital, alongside the director of the GHPP Michel Cohen.

Technicians are currently in training. This new machine should be operational from Monday, January 18.
