The intersection between Dituva and Priekulė, from which the road leads to the community of gardens, is being reconstructed by turning it into a ring.
At the moment, the intersection reconstruction project has already been prepared, according to which a 300-meter section – Dituva-Priekulė-Dreižiai road and Turgaus street in Dercekliai, as well as the entrance to the gas station located next to the road intersection – are included in the work zone.
The roundabout is planned to be installed by the company “Via Lietuva” (former Directorate of Lithuanian Motorways. – Author’s post.). The work tender will be announced only after the coordination of the project with the public and other bureaucratic procedures have been completed, so it is not yet known how much the work could cost.
During the reconstruction, it is planned to renovate the bus stops on both sides of the road, install pedestrian crossings, safety islands, and a bicycle path, which would be separated from the roadway by a fence.
At the moment, the intersection for entering the garden community from the main road has additional traffic lanes when coming from both the Priekulė and Dituva sides, the speed limit in the section before the intersection is limited to 50 kilometers per hour, and those leaving the garden community must stop.
However, at peak times, due to the high traffic flow, it is quite difficult to leave the garden community: the traffic at this place is intense, as the road is used by people who live in the area and work in the port city.
Traffic accidents often occur at the intersection, some of which resulted in fatal injuries. It is true that since 2015, no deaths have been recorded in accidents, but seven people were injured, one of them was a pedestrian.
The current road surface at the intersection is cracked, the road has been repaired by paving potholes, there are no pedestrian crossings, although the roadway is quite wide.
