A revolution in the labor code. Free all Fridays and every weekend starting on Thursday? The new law is already in the Sejm [2.02.2023]

A bill to shorten the weekly working time from 40 to 35 hours has already been submitted to the Sejm. The shortening of working time standards does not result in changes in the amount of remuneration, which means that it will not be lower than the one received so far. The project also does not provide for restrictions on the ways of organizing working time in the settlement period and enables the work system to be run in three eight-hour shifts. After more than half a century, we are entering the stage of another revolution regarding working time – then there was a fight for all free Saturdays, which is a standard today, now the battle is beginning to make every weekend at least three days long. A battle that is doomed to success – it is not known whether immediately or in a slightly longer perspective, for example with spreading this process into installments.

Working five hours shorter in a week can take various forms – starting from shortening the working day by an hour each day, starting work later or ending it an hour earlier than before, to such organization of working time during the week as to eliminate work on Friday, which would mean starting the weekend on Thursday after finishing work. of course, due to the needs of the company, this will not be possible everywhere, but you can imagine, for example, that some people will have Fridays off and others will work on Fridays – Mondays off for a change.

The oldest working Poles have already gone through it once, although more as students who had to go to school on Saturdays, because only one was free a month, or as students – on Saturdays, normal classes were held at universities. And then all Saturdays began to be free and the working week lasted and still lasts only five days. now it looks like another reduction – we are entering the era of the four-day workweek.
