Because one thing is certain: the matches between the Vienna Capitals and the Steinbach Black Wings always promise heated duels with a derby character. The best proof of this are the two playoff duels in the 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons, which both brought endless excitement and a better ending for Linz. And while the Stahlstadt residents want to secure their sixth consecutive victory, the guests from Vienna are also short on points.
Three games, three defeats
So far, the guests of the federal capital have had to admit defeat three times in six games completed in the still young season of the win2day ICE Hockey League and are currently in ninth place in the standings. More recently, however, the men around manager Dave Barr were able to win two in a row, against HC Pustertal and VSV.
Meeting with Rafael Rotter
With Rafael Rotter, a player who was still on the hunt for points with the hosts last year returns to Donaulände on Sunday: in 38 games he scored 20 points for Linz, including two goals and 18 assists. The 35-year-old caused a stir with his penalty: the Viennese original spent 100 minutes in the cool of last season, who again played for the Capitals this year.
St-Amant is back in formation
The people of Linz can count on reinforcements from Shawn St-Amant this weekend as well. Prior to his retirement, the 25-year-old had worked his way up to become a true key player in the Stahlstadt team. After a check from Innsbrucker Haien’s Daniel Leavens, however, the striker had to take a break. According to coach Philipp Lukas, St-Amant was able to train more or less without problems this week and is therefore entitled to play again. The situation is different for Rasmus Tirronen: he is still missing from Linz, but he is making progress in his recovery.
