The National Weather Service in Phoenix could see cooler temperatures and some rain this weekend and early next week.

Temperatures are expected to be “below normal through the end of this weekend,” the weather service said in its Thursday forecast.

“Breezy to locally windy conditions will develop across south-central Arizona today,” the forecast said. “Increasing moisture over the weekend will result in increased chances for showers and thunderstorms beginning Saturday, with potential for development on Sunday.”

High temperatures in the Phoenix metro area through Saturday will be in the mid-90s, dropping to the mid-90s starting Sunday through at least Wednesday of next week. Low temperatures are forecast to be between 75 and 79 degrees.

When will it rain in Phoenix?

A trough of low pressure skirting the Pacific Northwest and moving into the Great Basin on Saturday and Sunday “will create favorable conditions for shower and thunderstorm activity, primarily over south-central Arizona late Saturday and into Sunday and even Monday.”

Rain chances start Saturday night at 30% before increasing to 50% on Sunday and Sunday night and then dropping back to 30% on Monday, according to the weather service.

Reports show uncertainty with possible rainfall amounts across the region. Clusters clearly show Sunday will be the main period of shower and thunderstorm potential, but with rainfall totals ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch to over a half inch.
