International Billiards, which occupies the second floor of the Entre-Côte Riverin restaurant on rue Saint-Dominique in Jonquière, has enjoyed enormous success for three years with the organization of its billiards and poker tournaments.
The co-owners, Stéphane Bolduc and Stéphanie Lafleur, are very proud of it.
“We started this three years ago and it works extremely well. As for billiards, I have quite a few of the best players in the region who are with us. On the poker side, we are talking about a league on Tuesday, while Thursdays and Fridays are dedicated to tournaments. We attract a lot of people,” said Stéphane Bolduc.
The establishment is designed for billiards enthusiasts of all levels. The calibers go from A, 2A, 3A, to semi-professional. The place consists of four traditional pool tables, four poker tables and three snooker tables.
“The tournaments that we have set up are for players with less experience, so that they can improve. I often have between 24 to 32 players at pool. We organize six tournaments during the season for the first caliber, and six others for the second caliber. Women can also come and play in caliber B. The finals take place at the end of winter.”
The Inter Cup was also renewed this year with six regional tournaments for AA and under. The 2024-2025 billiards season officially began on September 21. The schedules for each tournament are available on the International Billiards Facebook page.
Poker
As for poker, up to seven tables can be set up, and around ten players per table can be seated. People from all over travel during the winter.
“It can go up to 50 to 60 people. I have people from Hébertville, Chicoutimi, Alma, Roberval, Saint-Félicien. From a competition point of view of this kind in Lac-Saint-Jean, there is nothing, and even in Jonquière, it is average. I try to develop a room with atmosphere, which is pleasant, and people have a lot of fun when they come,” added the co-owner.
A new online store
Soon, International Billiards will offer its players the opportunity to purchase new or used billiard equipment, thanks to the creation of an online store. Chopsticks, balls, chopstick holders, tables, mats and triangles will now be easily accessible and as needed.
Stéphane Bolduc also takes care of the drumstick repair service, for those who need it.
