The Association of Financial Markets in Europe said on Thursday that European governments issued bonds and bills worth about 1.351 trillion euros (1.6 trillion dollars) in the second quarter of this year, the largest quarterly issue ever.
The association stated in its second-quarter government bonds data report that the total issuance of bonds and bills from Europe and the United Kingdom represents an increase of 85.1% of the volume issued in the first quarter of the year and a jump of about 128% over the volume of issuance in the second quarter of 2019.
It stated that the average coverage rate of offers was 2.28 in the second quarter, an increase of 5.4% over the first quarter, indicating sufficient investor demand and central banks’ support for the increased issuance of bonds and bills resulting from the Corona pandemic.
