Tele2 tested the possibilities of 5G communication and set a record for mobile Internet speed on its network – 4.45 Gbps. The mobile operator offering 5G communication services was the first in Lithuania to achieve such a high-speed – during the test, the possibilities of future 5G communication were demonstrated.
The record speed recorded on the Tele2 network showed what possibilities await us in the future. Although the achieved speed inspires an incredible future, the carefully planned network and innovations help to ensure that cheap and high-quality 5G connection in our network is already available to the largest possible circle of customers,” said Petras Masiulis, Tele2 CEO for the Baltic States.
You can watch how the record was achieved here.
Mobile operator Tele2 has set a 5G speed record on its network in the 26 GHz radio frequency band (mmWave). For the purpose of the test, she received a special permit from the Communications Regulatory Authority (RCT) and used a phone specially designed for the test.
This 5G frequency band will be dedicated and used for speed and capacity in the future. This means that a large number of people will be able to use good internet in one place. Although this frequency band has extremely high capacity, the waves are quickly attenuated in space. Such physical properties determine that this frequency band will be particularly significant during large events and concerts. It will also be used in sports arenas or in the centers of large cities, when the connection of people needs to be strengthened when a large crowd gathers. The bandwidth will ensure that customers in high-congregation areas can enjoy extremely good internet speeds.
Valerij Kovzan, Tele2’s Technical Director for the Baltic States, says that only the future will tell where this innovation will be most widely used: in smartphones, for fixed wireless access or for mobile home internet service. Tests of this frequency have already been conducted in the world for several years, and Tele2, based on public information, was the first in Lithuania to conduct tests of the mentioned frequency band and will continue their examination.
“The tested frequency band is used to improve user experience or to ensure network speed. This spectrum can be used for mobile internet for homes in the countryside or even for industrial automation,” said Tele2’s technical director.
The 26 GHz radio frequency band will provide a solid foundation for virtual and augmented reality services that require high speed.
The speed recorded during the test on the Tele2 network will not be available to Lithuanian residents immediately. This will happen when the 5G network in Lithuania reaches the coverage level of the current 4G++ connection.
Tele2 operator conducted 5G connection speed tests during the LOGIN 2023 conference. The speed record was established taking into account the publicly announced data transmission speed achieved in the networks of other Lithuanian mobile operators in the 5G communication network.
