A reconstruction began this Friday morning on the Pont-Neuf in Paris where two men in a car were shot dead on April 24 by a policeman armed with an assault rifle during a traffic check.
Understand the respective positions of the different protagonists
Traffic was blocked by police vans on the north and south side of the bridge, yellow riders on the cobblestones and a dark car positioned as on the evening of the events.
This “scenario”, under the authority of the investigating judge in charge of this criminal case, could in particular make it possible to understand the respective positions of the various protagonists at the time of the tragedy.
The 24-year-old peacekeeper who fired was indicted on April 27 for “intentional homicide” concerning the driver, “intentional violence by a person in charge of public authority resulting in death without intention to give it with regard to the front passenger, and placed under judicial supervision.
On the evening of Sunday April 24, a few hours after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, a patrol of five police officers headed for a car parked in the wrong direction, hazard lights on, Quai des Orfèvres on the Ile de la Cité, to control the vehicle, according to the police intervention report. As the police approached the front of the car, it started and allegedly “ran towards one of the officials who moved away to avoid it”, according to the version then declared by the police officials. .
“The only” police officer on the spot to be armed with an assault rifle then opened fire on the vehicle which was heading for the Pont-Neuf where the car ended its race after having climbed on a platform.
The driver, Fadjigui, 25, and the front passenger, Boubacar, 31, died. Both were born in Paris and lived in the 20th arrondissement of the capital. A rear passenger in the car was also injured.
A drug deal
According to elements of the investigation revealed Tuesday by Mediapart and Liberation, this third man had gotten into the car for a narcotics transaction.
Also according to the two media, the policeman invoked self-defense, after firing ten times. His deadly bullets hit the victims from the side and the rear, a trajectory which hardly seems compatible with this thesis of self-defense.
The position of the peacekeeper who fired, his presence in the path of the vehicle, the speed of the car and the ability of this official to avoid it, are at the heart of the investigation.
