The BMW car company today produces M-versions of its SUVs and sedans, and a sharp station wagon of the 3 series was also created. Despite the fact that in the past the M variants also had the Z3 and Z4 roadsters, something like this will not happen again. At least according to the site’s findings BMW blogwhich deals with news from the Munich car company.
Why not? No one would buy it, is the answer. According to Michael Wimbeck, who heads the Z4 project at the Munich automaker, there is no market for the new Z4 M. Some members of the development team wanted to build it, but in the end, even with such a car, the decision is up to the managers who decide whether the development would be worthwhile.
Moreover, the difference compared to the Z4 M40i, which is currently at the top of the range, would probably not be that big. It already uses some details, such as axle kinematics or subframe designs, from the full-bodied M3 and M4. It’s also really powerful – its inline six-cylinder produces 340 hp and 500 Nm and accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
What we can at least hopefully look forward to is a manual transmission even for more powerful engines than the basic two-liter, so maybe even for the M40i. After all, the Toyota Supra, which shares technology with the Z4, has already received a six-cylinder manual. But whether the roadster will also get it is still only speculation.
