A rare art of Kerala hidden cinema | Deshabhimani

Kochi> ‘Kitho was fantastic in his jokes. Kalor Dennis –– Kitho –– JohnPaul. This friendship lasts more than a lifetime. Even if the younger generation doesn’t know much, those like Sebastian Paul who were in the group at the time will remember it.

period 1972. Before becoming a screenwriter, Kalur Dennis excelled as a newspaper editor at the office of “Chitrapournami” magazine on MG Road, Ernakulam. The painter Kitho, who painted miracles in the advertising art of cinema, first began studying him there. John Paul, who joined this group as a bank official and became a screenwriter, said goodbye just a few months ago.

That day began Kitho’s friendship with Kalur Dennis, who was an elder at Kalur St. Anthony’s School. At school, she started drawing for blocks that were used to print images on printing machines. Even after leaving the PUC in the Maharaja and starting to paint as a way of life, Dennis began drawing illustrations for his long stories. It was Dennis who first organized the drawing in Chitrakaumudi magazine. Kitho also became famous in the media world after starting drawing illustrations in Chitra Pournami, a popular Malayalam film magazine at the time. The magazine, which was run by Pandalatan AN Ramachandran, was later sold to Kalur Dennis, a regular writer. Kitho also became the magazine’s first finalist. Sebastian Paul has been appointed managing editor. John Paul and photographer Anthony Eastman have joined the family.

That season of Chitrapournami brought Kitho closer to cinema. In 1978, his acquaintance with IV Sasi led him to the film “Ee Manoharatheeram”. Kitho took care of the advertising graphics and the artistic direction of the film. Coincidentally, the screenplay work for that film passed into the hands of John Paul and Kalur Dennis before the writers.

Kitho has done commercials for the films of many directors such as Jaycee, Joshi, Sathyan Anthikkad, Faasil, Kamal, VG Thambi, Mohan, Harikumar, Thambi Kannanthanam, KS Sethumadhavan, George Kithu, Thulasidas etc. In those days when computer graphics did not exist, Kitho brought many design innovations. Cartoon posters have been released for the film Aororumariya, directed by KS Sethumadhavan. The cartoon poster featuring Madhu, Bharat Gopi, Karamana Janardanannayar and Nedumudi Venu pulling a chariot in this six-sheet poster has become very popular.
