A Ramadan Planner for Muslims: How to Prepare and Plan for the Fasting Period

A Ramadan planner, especially for Muslims who could use a little more guidance during the spiritual month of the year? Yes, it exists. The inventor of the book explains why it is so important to plan the fasting period well and start by focusing on your personal goals. “This will make you a better person.”

Ramadan officially starts at sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Fasting begins the morning after: on Monday, March 11. Yet for many Muslims it is nice to think about some goals a month before the start. And of course also during the fasting month and afterwards. Uitgeverij Lannoo therefore comes up with a planner to get the most out of Ramadan. The book guides you step-by-step through a three-month process.

The company behind the planner is Towards Faith, an educational lifestyle brand. It was founded in 2014 by Shahbaz Mirza (33). With 51,600 followers on Instagram, Towards Faith wants to gain popularity. “I had my first job as a management consultant at the age of 23,” Shahbaz tells us from Dubai. “I was stressed about how to practice Ramadan properly and manage my work at the same time.”

The intention is to take those aha moments with you for years to come, simply by leafing through the book

“I needed something to hold on to. That’s how I came up with the idea of setting up an organized plan to better prepare and come out of Ramadan a better person.”

Why you should plan Ramadan

“In the Islamic calendar, there is a month preceding Ramadan called Sha’ban,” Shahbaz explains. “That month is seen as the preparation month. Compare it to a marathon runner who prepares himself by training a few months earlier. After Ramadan there is a month called Shawwal. During that period we try to continue the habits of fasting.”

Muslims can also use some guidance during Ramadan itself. “It is our spiritual highlight of the year. In that month, our actions are rewarded by Allah and so it is natural to pay extra attention to everything in our lives.”

When you open the planner, you first get an overview of what the month of Ramadan means. It contains exercises that help you understand yourself better by considering what your strengths and weaknesses are. “How is your relationship with the people around you? Where do you want to go with your faith? You will also receive a personal plan for Ramadan itself. The intention is to take those aha moments with you for years to come, simply by leafing through the book.”

The best compliment is when people say that internal conflicts and struggles have been resolved. They feel reborn

The response to previous planners has already been positive, says Shahbza. “I heard that people enjoy working on the problems of the past year. The best compliment is when they tell you that internal conflicts and struggles have been resolved. They feel reborn.”

“We are also very grateful that Muslims all over the world, from Great Britain, the US, Canada, France, Malaysia, Australia find their way to our website and our products. The world sometimes seems like one whole in which everyone is looking for the same thing: fulfillment. I hope to be able to contribute to that for a long time to come.”

Shahbaz comes across as a man with a plan. He would like to further expand his company. “Our faith offers peace and support, but Muslims have nowhere to turn for practical resources. So we want to be a companion in that. We want to enrich everyday life and make life worth living.” A nice goal. Shahbaz definitely puts it in his planner.
