This film almost never saw the light of day: After allegations of abuse against Woody Allen, “A Rainy Day in New York” was unceremoniously withdrawn from circulation by Amazon Studios; in Europe the film is now in the cinemas: everyone is served a kitsch-nostalgic view of his Manhattan, which has never looked so unreal and transfigured as here. The plot revolves around the student couple Ashleigh (Elle Fanning) and Gatsby (Timothée Chalamet) who have planned a romantic weekend in New York; But Ashleigh has to do an interview with the well-known director Roland Pollard (Liev Schreiber) for the college newspaper, who then invites her to a screening of his new film, where the screenwriter (Jude Law) and the star of the film (Diego Luna) are present. From then on, Ashleigh kept putting her friend Gatsby off because she stumbled from one unplanned situation into the next. A relaxed weekend looks different. Gatsby sets off alone through New York and meets Chan (Selena Gomez), the younger sister of his ex.
Everyone varies his eternal life themes around love, art, intellect and all sorts of neuroses once again quite moody, but the dusty image of women of the 84-year-old director, especially against the background of #MeToo, causes some displeasure; a film like from a bygone era.
