The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Bulgarian citizens of expected problems with rail transport in Germany due to a warning strike announced from January 10 to 12 by the German trade union GDL
For this reason, the Situation Center at the Ministry advises Bulgarians to refrain from non-urgent trips to Germany, postponing them for another period. All passengers who wish to postpone their journey can use their ticket at a later date. The ticket is valid for the journey to the original destination, even with a changed route. Seat reservations can be canceled free of charge, the department said.
The strike action will continue from 02:00 am on January 10 to January 12 inclusive. This will lead to severe disruptions in Deutsche Bahn long-distance, regional and S-Bahn traffic during this period. The emergency timetable will only provide very limited train travel.
Telephone information on the current traffic situation and the impact of the GDL strike action on rail traffic can be obtained on the toll-free hotline at Tel No: 0049 8000-996633. Citizens should inform themselves about their journey 24 hours before departure, on the bahn.de website, in DB Navigator or on the free phone number, advises the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier this week, German farmers protesting agricultural policy changes disrupted traffic in multiple locations in the north and east of the country.
