On November 1, volunteers from The Bowery Mission will run a half-marathon in the streets of the Big Apple to raise funds to distribute meals to the homeless.
The Covid-19 also got the better of the most famous race in the world. The New York Marathon, which usually brings together pro and amateurs every November 1, unfortunately had to be canceled this year. For some, the event is an opportunity to run for a good cause by raising funds for a charity. This is the case of Alain Bernard, President and CEO of Richemont North America, Marie de Foucaud and Agathe Louvet, who had decided to run the marathon in support of The Bowery Mission. After the announcement of the cancellation of the race, the trio, who still have this desire to help the association, formed a group of friends and organized a half-marathon. Sunday morning, 25 people will therefore share a breakfast before setting off in the streets of Manhattan with the aim of raising $ 50,000.
In recent months, the Covid-19 pandemic which affects the whole world has spared no one and those who live on the streets are particularly affected. In associations, volunteers are scarce and galas and other fundraising events are no longer authorized. Since the arrival of the virus in the United States, The Bowery Mission has distributed more than 213,000 meals and offered 55,000 overnight stays. This New York association, founded in 1870, is one of the oldest charities in the city and today one of the most powerful.
