A large tornado and hail the size of tennis balls caused great damage in southeastern Czech Republic. The tornado is said to be the most powerful in central Europe in modern times.

“It’s pure hell,” said the regional governor of the southern Moravian region, Jan Grolich, after visiting the area on Thursday, according to The Guardian.
The tornado is the first in central Europe since 2018.
Strong storms and a tornado have hit areas around Břeclav and Hodonín, in the southeast of the country.
The hospital in the town of Hodonin, which is located on the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia, states that it has treated up to 200 injured. At least four have been confirmed dead.
– There was blood everywhere and helpless people who cried. They had managed to save themselves, but lost their homes, said Antonin Tesarik, according to local news. Tesarik is the director of Hodonin Hospital.

Rescue crews from all over the country and neighboring countries such as Austria and Slovakia have been called in to contribute, writes the BBC.
