A very heavy forecast from a specialist about the consequences of the terrible tragedy with a child and the policeman father killed by him.
“The child’s mother will never experience what happened. This is a huge tragedy. As much as she loves her son, she will see him as the father’s killer.
This will be the Oedipus complex,” psychiatrist Dr. Veselin Gerev told a Plovdiv24.bg reporter.
Dr. Gerev was adamant that at the moment the child cannot realize what exactly he has done.
“Children perceive all this as a computer game. You’re playing the game, you shoot someone, you get killed, you kill. You restart the game and everything starts again. He is not mentally mature enough to understand what he has done and what the consequences are. The realization will take place in 8 to 10 years. His psyche will mature and he will understand what he has done. This will be a serious post-traumatic stress disorder that he will carry with him for the rest of his life.”
He added that elderly family members will also have a hard time going through the situation. The doctor expressed bewilderment as to how a gunman like the late policeman could have made such a mistake.
“If he knows the gun has no protection, how is he going to let the child play with it or have it loaded in front of the child on the table. This is unacceptable. This sloppiness and absolute incompetence and ignorance of children’s behavior has led to the tragic reaction. A child has no business standing where there are any weapons at all.”
The psychiatrist was adamant that the boy would not be able to watch films with violence and weapons. Saying such words will also bring him memories.
According to him, this type of stress was first described in survivors of the Vietnam War.
“There are still 300 alive and they are still reliving their memories of the war, and then they were people of 15-16 years old.”
“He will never touch a weapon again. It cannot be the other way around. The stress response will keep him very far away from these things. His psyche won’t allow him to do that,” he added.
