After the sanction measure obtained by the project of voluntary interruption of pregnancy in the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate of the Nation began this week the debate of the initiative in commissions. During the first day of exhibitions, one of the guests from the sky sector made an unusual mistake during his presentation.
Within the framework of the round of exhibitors that began this Tuesday, in two shifts with a total of 20 guests (10 in favor and 10 against), the assisted fertilization specialist, Edgardo Young, made it clear that he did not read the project. up for debate, since I confused it with the “1000 days”.
“When I have seen that the legal interruption of pregnancy is dated 1000 days, I never understood and nobody explained to me why it is 1000 days”, he asked during his presentation, revealing that, despite having been invited to give his opinion of the subject, he did not even bother to read the projects.
The 1000 days initiative seeks to strengthen the comprehensive care of the health and life of women and other pregnant people, and of boys and girls in early childhood in the first three years of the newborn’s life.
In another fragment of his speech, Young pointed out that “human life begins in the process of fertilization, that is, the union of the ovum with the spermatozoid” and added that “when cell multiplication begins there a new being develops.”
And he remarked: “Is it a person? It is not a person yet, surely, but it is a potential person. As a potential person, it must have the same value as a person with some time of development.”
The debate that began in the Upper House revealed that both the celestial senators, as well as their guests, did not read the bill that came with half the approval of Deputies, nor did they listen to the entire debate that took place during the past week. .
In addition to the lack of reading of the subject under analysis, the low level of argumentation reproduces a series of myths or falsehoods such as the costs that legalizing abortion can mean for the health system, as well as erroneous information on the weeks in which it can be accessed to voluntary termination of pregnancy.
