The streets of New York have been filled with magic thanks to the presence of a young Venezuelan princess whose purpose is to save a life.
Yessi Hernández is a Venezuelan actress, writer and journalist who has taken to the streets of New York dressed as a princess. Cinderella, Elsa, Ana and Rapunzel, are some of the characters of this young woman, who surprises New Yorkers with her magical presence.
But dressing like this was not part of a play or some street drama; the motivation behind his feat is the love of his father, for whom Yessi disguises himself every day to save his life.
As he recounts in a statement, when his father suffered a medical emergency due to complications with a diverticulitis aguda, that almost cost him his life; being an only child, Yessi took on the titanic task of raising the money to pay for her father’s treatments and surgeries.
His father, who resides in Venezuela, had to deal with the serious crisis that the country is going through, which prevented you from receiving treatment due to high costs of surgeries and hospitalization. As has happened with many Venezuelans, the health centers rejected his national health insurance and demanded a payment in dollars to be able to treat him.
From that moment, Yessi put his creativity to work, to raise funds and help his father.
The young actress takes to the streets of New York dressed as a princess in the company of her prince charming in real life, and also her adorable pet.
Along the way, Yessi gives balloons and brings joy, while spreading the word of the campaign GoFundMe organized to raise the necessary funds for his father’s treatment and operations in Venezuela.
“I started dressing up as a princess to honor all those fairy tales my dad used to tell me when I was little”
With a video that has gone viral in the social media, Yessi has touched thousands of people with her work to give her dad a second chance at life.
“It’s a way to share our campaign, just asking people to help us spread the word on social media, or donate what they can.”
The crisis in Venezuela has prompted many Venezuelans, inside and outside the country, to be creative and look for ways to turn around the difficulties that their situation has brought them. It is no longer just about surviving outside, but about reaching out to those who stayed inside, the young woman details.
“Today is for my dad, but our country is full of stories like ours. Stories of struggle, of overcoming, of creativity, of strength. Venezuelans carry that resilience in our blood, the same one that makes us reinvent ourselves and get up as many times as necessary ”.
According to Hernández, his case has reached various media and numerous artists, influencers and journalists who have joined in the dissemination of the campaign –among them, people like Olga Tañon– inspired by the work of the Venezuelan who forges a path as an immigrant actress in the United States.
