Paramount sold the film with Eddie Murphy to the streaming platform.
November 20, 2020 update : The Hollywood Reporter announces that A Prince in New York 2 will be available on the platform on March 5, 2021 in more than 240 countries.
Article from 10/14/2020 : After having recently acquired the new Borat, Amazon Prime Video continues to invest in cinema. According to Variety, the streaming platform is negotiating with the studio Paramount, to recover the rights toA Prince in New York 2, with Eddie Murphy. The sequel to this 1980s comedy classic, then directed by John Landis, was due to be released in theaters in 2021.
The deal is currently being negotiated, and would also include partnerships already signed – with McDonald’s in particular – transferred to Amazon Studios with the film, which would be a priority for the head of content, Jennifer Salke.
A Prince in New York 2, whose title is provisional, will be directed by Craig Brewer, author of the ghetto drama against a background of southern rap, Hustle & Flow. In the casting, in addition to Murphy, we will find Arsenio Hall and Wesley Snipes. The story will follow Prince Akeem Joffer, who became ruler of Zamunda, who discovers that he has a son hidden in America.
Note that the other big suite in sight with Eddie Murphy, Le Flic de Beverly Hills 4, will also be released in streaming and not in the cinema. It will be on Netflix.
