Thirty-three years after the release of the film “A Prince in New York”, Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall resume their respective roles in this second part tinged with nostalgia.
Released on screens in 1988, A prince in New York had met with colossal success thanks to the stripping humor contained in this comedy centered on the voyage of prince Akeem, and his servant Semmi, in the United States of America. Forced to marry a woman he has never seen before, the son of the king of Zamunda – a wealthy and prosperous African nation – decides to break with tradition by heading to New York, in the district of Queens, to find his future wife there. A woman who will appreciate him for his personality, and not for his fortune and his status as a future monarch.
Thirty-three years later, Akeem and Princess Lisa are about to celebrate their 30e wedding anniversary in the presence of their three daughters. On his deathbed, as his kingdom flourishes, King Jaffe Joffer is seized with a vision in which Zamunda falls into the hands of the powerful General Izzi. However, there is a solution: Akeem must return to New York to find the trace of a son he did not know existed. And who, as heir, will ensure the prosperity of the kingdom. A mission that Akeem and Semmi will try to carry out despite many adventures.
Posted this Friday on Amazon Prime Video, A Prince in New York 2 fails to match the exceptional quality of the first component. That being said. Most fans shouldn’t be disappointed either. And will happily rediscover the gallery of characters, known and new, who make their appearance in this sequel offering what it takes of hilarious moments, and well-felt lines, to have a good time in front of his screen.
