Less than a week ago we got to know the results of this year’s 65th Eurovision Song Contest. The Italian team Maneskin was the winner, and Rafał Brzozowski, representing Poland, took the final position 14th place in the second semi-final. As we remember The performance of the Polish team was questionable almost until the last hours. One of our team members received a positive test for COVID-19which meant that all Poles had to undergo self-isolation.

Until the test results were negative, Poles could not contact other people, and on the opening day Eurovision Song Contest 2021 Rafał Brzozowski could not take part in the ceremony. The organizers, however, made sure that the audience could see the performance of each of the representatives a few months before the start of the eventwho would receive positive coronavirus test results during Eurovision 2021. Obviously, the artists would not appear live on stage, but their previously recorded performance would be broadcast during the semi-finals or the finals..

Now the official Eurovision channel presented previously unknown live-on-tape recordings (backup version of the performance at Eurovision) of each delegation taking part in the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. How did Rafał Brzozowski fare?

This is what Rafał Brzozowski’s performance at Eurovision was supposed to look like. It was not without a slip-up

Mentioned live-on-tape recordings they had possibly to replace the physical participation of performers in Rotterdam, took place two months before the start of Eurovision 2021. The European Broadcasting Union gave the TV stations a free hand in the organization of the stage facilities, but to avoid accusations of playback, each material was analyzed in detail, and the recording process itself was watched by a representative of the EBU, connecting remotely with delegations.

Rafał Brzozowski recorded his performance in a TV studio near Warsaw. The vocalist performed the song “The Ride” in the Transcolor hall, where such programs as “Got Talent!”, “Taniec z Gwiazdami” or “You Can Dance – Just Dance!” Were realized. The director of the Polish performance was Mikołaj Dobrowolski. The broadcaster himself chose the version of the live-on-tape performance himself, which he then sent to the organizers.

Rafał Brzozowski

As presented today during the program “Eurovision Song Celebration: Live-On-Tape”, Rafał Brzozowski’s backup performance did not impress, but himself the singer had a slip-up. What went wrong? Right before one of the choruses the singer, putting on his glasses again, hooked them on the intricately prepared hairstyle.

It made that part of his combed fringe did not look good in the frame for a whileMoreover, the glasses did not fit perfectly behind the ear, which made Rafał Brzozowski at the most important moment of the song, he had to correct them several times, instead of focusing on singing. This certainly put a little bit of stress on his actions.

Rafał’s performance was shown as the ninth in sequence, right after the Austrian representative’s performance (Rafał Brzozowski’s song begins on this recording in the 35th minute). We can follow the unfortunate moment from 37:55 minutes of video.
