En this year marked by the pandemic, how is blood donation doing?
Jean-Jacques Bellanger, president of ADSBCL: “We are seeing a decrease, but this can be explained by the fact that we had planned eighteen collections at the start of the year, as usual, and that we only carried out sixteen. Those of the house of intercommunality and the high school Guillaume-le-Conquérant in Lillebonne were canceled because of the health crisis. […] In Lillebonne, we even had nine more volunteers this year. There were 731 last year and 740 this year. In Port-Jérôme, we have four fewer donations per year and one less in La Frénaye. This is what I call stable fundraising, because three or four fewer people is not significant. […] We are fortunate that municipalities are making their rooms available. And donors and volunteers have responded. Compared to this difficult year, the donors have been really great. “
So health rules have not deterred donors?
“We have a small problem for people who do not make an appointment in advance. It is perhaps more complicated for the new ones, we see that they are less numerous than last year. This is where things go wrong, we are 37% of new donors in the Lillebonne region. Sometimes there are also omissions for regulars. In this case, we stall the donors in-between when there are missed appointments. […] What has especially changed is that we regulate the flow from the entrance. For the moment, an agent of the EFS (French blood establishment) is doing this, but subsequently, a volunteer from the Amicale Volunteer, who will have followed a two-hour training course, could take on this position. “
Will there be other new features next year?
“Normally, at the end of 2021, we should see the emergence of medical tele-assistance. Usually, two doctors come for blood drives but, like everywhere in France, we have a shortage of doctors. The remote assistance will respond to this lack. A nurse trained at the post can have a doctor by tele-assistance in the face of a difficult situation. […] In Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine, we will go to the L’Escale room, from the first collection on January 14. This allows for more beds. We could go from six or eight beds to twelve or fifteen, and therefore, welcome more donors. The room is large, so we have no problem with distance. We were already at L’Escale four or five years ago. My wish is that we stay there and that we welcome more donors. “
Next collection in Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine, Salle L’Escale, Thursday, January 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
