France Football has revealed which 30 footballers will compete for the Ballon d’Or award in 2024.
The main favorites in the race are several – Manchester City’s Rodri, who is one of the most frequently mentioned players, especially after winning the European Championship with his country Spain. Other candidates include Real Madrid’s Vinicius and Jude Bellingham, as well as Man City’s goalscorer and Rodri’s team-mate Erling Haaland.
2023 will be the last of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s dominance, broken only twice by Luka Modric and Karim Benzema. Neither the Portuguese nor the Argentine are among the nominees for the most prestigious individual award in football, and this has been a precedent since 2003, writes “Top Sport”.
Ronaldo did not receive a nomination last year either, while Messi is outside the top 30 for the first time since 2005.
