Facebook’s parent company Meta, which also owns WhatsApp and Instagram, revealed traces of attempts by an Iranian hacking group to hack into the WhatsApp accounts of US officials linked to the administrations of US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, reported Reuters and the Associated Press.
A message on the corporation’s website reads: “After investigating user complaints, our security services have blocked a small group of WhatsApp accounts, [чиито собственици] posing as tech company customer service representatives.”
The attacked accounts were not hacked.
Earlier in August, U.S. intelligence agencies said Iran tried to interfere in the U.S. presidential election campaign by conducting cyber operations against the campaign headquarters of Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Representative Kamala Harris.
