On New Year’s Eve, a Calgary police officer was fatally struck by a driver trying to escape a police roadblock.
Sergeant Andrew Harnett, 37, died of his injuries in a hospital.
His colleagues and paramedics had tried everything to save his life, lamented on his Facebook page the Calgary Police Department, where the victim had worked for 12 years.
The Alberta Police Force explained that Sergeant Harnett was dispatched to a traffic stop in the residential area of Falconridge when the tragedy occurred.
At around 10:50 p.m., a vehicle fled to escape the police, overturning Andrew Harnett as he passed, before continuing on his way.
The agent’s death was pronounced around midnight.
Calgary police were still looking for the fugitive late Friday morning.
