On Spotify, la playlist “Stand with Ukraine” invites you to discover many Ukrainian artists from diverse and varied musical genres.
This playlist was created by journalists from Latvia, the description of the playlist reads: “In light of current events in Ukraine, music journalists and the wider music communities in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have created this playlist to show their support for the people and musicians of Ukraine. Feel free to spread the word about colorful music from Ukraine.“
The playlist is currently composed of 55 titles. Among the musical discoveries we made we particularly liked the singer Jamala and her song “1944” which represented Ukraine at Eurovision in 2016 and the Dakh Daughters, a cabaret troupe made up of seven women. The Dakh Daughters gave their news to Inrockuptibles, an article to discover here.
Our real musical favorite of this playlist, however, goes to the DakhaBrakha quartet and his title “Baby” to listen to below. The group, made up of three women and one man, offers a tasty mix of traditional Ukrainian singing and folk music while adding a touch of modernity. At each of their performances, the members of the group proudly wear traditional costumes. The name of the group is also meaningful: DakhaBrakha is composed of two Ukrainian verbs” Give and Take”, meaning respectively “give” and “take”.
Next Monday, March 28, the group will also be in concert in Paris at the Montfort Theater for a concert in support of Ukraine. The concert will be broadcast live on Facebook. Follow the event live here. All proceeds from this evening will be donated to the French Red Cross.
Good musical discoveries!
