Manchester City’s rising Norwegian international starlet Oscar Bobb has revealed the two first-team names that were crucial to his integration into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The 21-year-old has started the new 2024/25 season in exemplary fashion, emerging as the starring name from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, as well as claiming a Player of the Match award in the opening competitive fixture of the campaign.
Recording goals and assists in the four-match tour of the United States over the course of three weeks in July and August, Bobb also forged a seamless combination with Erling Haaland, before providing a crucial assist against Manchester United in the Community Shield.
It was the Norwegian’s run, dribble, and cross into the Manchester United penalty area that forced a header from Bernardo Silva to equalise the contest and take the game into a penalty shoot-out at Wembley Stadium, which Manchester City came out on top of.
But how has Oscar Bobb managed to immerse himself so seamlessly into the Manchester City first-team set-up over the course of the last 12 months in particular, after his first breakthrough during the last season.
Speaking during a new feature with Rising Ballersproviding insight into Oscar Bobb’s daily routine at the Manchester City training facility, the 21-year-old was keen to namedrop two teammates that aided settling in at the Etihad Stadium.
“Ruben (Dias) helps me a lot, and he’s one of the best role models that I think anyone could have,” Bobb revealed.
“Another one that helped me a lot was Jack (Grealish); he’s such a nice guy, and when a player with his respect accepts you, you feel very welcome.”
Oscar Bobb continued in his praise for Ruben Dias in particular by labelling the Portuguese international defender as the ‘best trainer’ within the Manchester City squad. “I’d probably say Ruben (Dias), just because he never switches off.”
The understanding within Manchester City is that Oscar Bobb will be one of Pep Guardiola’s two options to perform on the right of a front-three, competing for a consistent place in the team with new summer signing Savinho.
The Brazilian international also made his Manchester City first-team debut at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, operating on the left of Pep Guardiola’s forward line and impressing in several actions during the second-half.
Manchester City will kick-off their Premier League defence and pursuit of a fifth consecutive top-flight crown with an away trip to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, before opening up their Etihad Stadium account by welcoming newcomers Ipswich Town to the north-west.
