A phone call capable of emptying your account: vishing alarm, do not answer

It seems incredible and yet there is a really insidious new scam capable of literally emptying the current account of Italians.

It is called vishing and unfortunately it has also arrived in Italy. Let’s see how it works because according to experts it is a fraud of exceptional gravity.

A call apparently trivial, but with disastrous consequences. We answer a phone call apparently like the others and the voice on the phone tells us that it is calling us from our bank. The phone call is theoretically aimed precisely at protecting us from fraud, which is why it is necessary to activate new security protocols to guarantee our account from malicious people. In reality all this is not true, but whoever puts this scam in place is so clever as to make us believe it. We are asked to do something seemingly simple and mundane. We are told that we will receive a code via text message and all we have to do is read the code to the person on the other side of the phone. So something really trivial that just anyone would agree to do especially if the request comes from their bank and is for security reasons.

A very dangerous and new scam

Yet this very simple gesture is enough to drain our account. But how is it possible that simply reading a code received via text message can drain our current account? This is probably the most insidious scam circulating online today and is called vishing. At this point very few fall for the old scam of the link to click on the email or message and this new method of computer fraud is truly capable of claiming many victims. But experts say to be especially careful: if we get such phone calls let’s put it down straight away.

A company lost € 59,000 in this way

Above all let’s refuse to communicate any code that arrives via sms. Banks do not proceed in this way to activate the security procedures and in any case if we have any doubts we must go to our bank and ask if what we are told is true. As told by the association for the protection of consumers Italian Consumera company in Rome was even robbed of €59.000 simply for believing this phone call.

The victim in this case was the manager of a company in the capital. She had gone to the bank for routine operations, but shortly thereafter he began to receive phone calls which were supposedly from the bank and who asked her for a series of operations to verify the data and complete the security procedures.
